It just so happens that in the same week I turned thirty, I also reached week thirty in my pregnancy, so this post's title is appropriate for two different reasons!
Last week, Peter and I took a babymoon and spent the week in Florida. I had been putting just a little pressure on him about making my thirtieth birthday extra special, the way I had made his extra special (he'll claim I put a LOT of pressure on him, but that's simply false), but then COVID happened, and we realized having a party with people who are forced to share a small space indoors wasn't ideal. Somewhere down the line, the idea of going to Disney World one more time before Bubbles' arrival came to mind, and that's what we decided to do! I figured, if I can't have a party, going to Disney is a pretty darn good alternative. And, of course, Peter was relieved that he no longer had to plan something extravagant. 😂
The first half of the trip was actually spent road tripping. Peter has an uncle in Palmetto and another uncle in West Palm Springs, so we flew into Orlando then drove to Palmetto, which is on the west coast of Florida. We had a really nice morning/afternoon of hiking (SO much easier to do while pregnant in Florida because the trails are flat), taking in the scenery, and enjoying a picnic on the beach with his uncle there. We then drove across the state to West Palm Springs and enjoyed a wonderfully rambunctious meal with his other uncle and his family. My immediate family is very small, and while my extended family on my mother's side isn't, we don't typically get super rowdy or anything like that, so it was actually really nice being part of a loud but loving group of people in West Palm Springs and feeling as much a part of the family as everyone else around the table (even though I hadn't met most of them yet!). 😊
We drove back to Orlando and spent the actual day of my birthday at Hollywood Studios. You'll notice a large pin affixed to my dress in the picture above. Disney has pins for people who are celebrating different events while at the parks, and birthdays are included, so I was able to go into a store and ask for a birthday pin. Then, as we wandered around the park, if a cast member noticed my pin, they wished me a happy birthday. It was magical! I really did feel like the Disney princess Peter professes me to be! I had also ordered a pair of Mickey ears from Etsy to wear while we were there because I've never owned a pair before. It might be a little too hard to see, but this particular pair was inspired by the movie Up (there's a house with gems serving as balloons on the left ear). We hadn't seen Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge yet, so that was especially exciting. I kinda wish I had dressed up like a Jedi that day lol. You'll notice a replica of the Millennium Falcon in the picture - Peter actually got to go inside of it briefly! So cool! We then spent another day at Animal Kingdom because neither of us had been since we were kids (and because when we were at Disney back in 2018, we had visited Magic Kingdom and Epcot, so it only made sense that we'd visit the other remaining parks), where he got to ride Flight of Passage, the Pandora-inspired ride that one of my best friends is always raving about. That was the only ride I was truly disappointed about not being able to ride. The Pandora part of the park was still really cool though - the scenery blew my mind. And the safari ride that allowed us to see some wild animals up close was awesome!
There were a few rides that Peter went on that I couldn't go on because of my pregnancy (like the one where he went inside of the Millennium Falcon), but it worked out because I was able to rest or check out some of the nearby shops while he went on them. Boy, did I need those rest breaks. We left both parks mid-afternoon, and by then, my feet were swollen and my hips were aching. I strategically put a rest day between the two days at the parks to ensure I didn't overdo it, and that worked out marvelously. We spent that rest day by the pool at our resort (it had a lazy river attached to it, and less than 15 people were there when we were, so social distancing was easy to do) and then hit up Disney Springs, where we had the most delicious BBQ dinner and where Peter bought me a Disney-inspired birthday gift. 😉 The cherry on top of the week was meeting Joanne Kaminski, an online tutor coach that I'm a HUGE fan of, and spending time with her at Capone's dinner and show. Total fan girl moment!
We of course plan to bring baby Bubbles to Disney someday, but I don't know when that will be, so I'm really glad we had the opportunity to go before her arrival. It was also really nice having that time away with just Peter. Yes, COVID means I spend a lot more time with Peter in general because we're not going out all of the time, but it was really nice just relishing our time along together, soaking up some warm Floridian weather, and getting some rest (and taking a break from Terraforming Mars, a board game Peter got for Christmas that we've been playing nonstop...and just for a frame of reference, the game is like Risk - it takes a LONG time, so it often sits on our dining table until we can return to it again lol).
I think I had been dreading turning thirty ever since I was in my mid-twenties, but by the time it actually happened, I was excited about it! My thirties are going to look SO different from my twenties, and as amazing as my twenties were, I'm so excited to see what will happen in my thirties, starting with the birth of our Bubbles. 😄
