Welcome to my new blog!! This one will most likely be the one I use for a good chunk of my life, unless I decide to start a very specific type of blog, like a health and fitness blog (fat chance of that particular example happening). Well, I have now been married for a month (wahoo!), and I really do love it. This post will kind of update you on what has happened this past month.
First of all, the wedding was a smashing success! It was held at a beautiful and historical mansion that housed some lovely gardens behind it, which is where the ceremony took place and where the tent for the reception was set up. Everyone warned me that the day would go by quickly, but it's not really something you can comprehend until the day arrives. It's a bit of a blur, so I keep asking people to share their accounts of it with me lol. I definitely spent more time off of the dance floor than I thought I would (I really thought I'd be dancing throughout the reception except to eat and cut the cake, forgetting that we'd need to take some bridal portraits). It was a hot day, but thankfully it didn't rain and everyone seemed to have a really good time. I surprised Peter by singing a medley of Disney love songs with some of my friends from my college a cappella group. It was great! And so many people came up to me afterwards, shocked that they didn't know I could sing hehe. Peter gave his groomsmen lightsabers (the legit kind) as gifts, so when the sun went down, the lightsabers came out. I won't lie - I joined in, at one point, at Peter's request. I can't thank everyone enough for helping to make the day such a success, ESPECIALLY those who helped immediately before and after the wedding itself, despite the heat!! Those people are the real MVPs.
Our honeymoon was super relaxing. We went to Greece, specifically to Crete and Athens, as suggested by two of my Greek friends from my Master's program. I haven't really been on my own vacation where I didn't do any sort of planning beforehand. This was the first time, and it certainly won't be the last. Peter and I ended up sleeping quite a lot during the trip, because we didn't realize just how exhausted we were from the couple of weeks leading up to the wedding. It was great not worrying about sticking to a schedule, although at times it felt a little weird to me. The beaches were amazing, but really, the food was the best part. We stayed in Air Bnbs (the one in Athens was AMAZING - we were in the penthouse and had the most incredible view!), but we didn't actually do any cooking. In Crete, we loved one place so much that we ate there three times! AND on the third time, they provided us with complimentary local wine. ; ) I accidentally washed some of our clothes with bleach instead of laundry detergent and our flight from Crete to Athens was cancelled last minute, but both setbacks weren't enough to rain on our parade. We were away for about 9 days, and spent the remainder of the second week as a "staycation", during which we simply stayed at home and got comfy with married life.
Marriage has meant a lot of changes, but all have been positive ones! Peter and I didn't live together prior to the wedding, so we immediately noticed how nice it is not having to part at the end of the night. If it's not obvious, Peter and I also individually chose to practice abstinence until we were married, so that aspect of marriage was a big change too. I'm not going to get graphic, but in the interest of continuing to be as honest as possible like in my last blog (it's called the musings of a soon-to-be wifey, if you're interested), it wasn't something that we picked up quickly. Movies make it seem like sex is pretty straightforward, but it's a bit more complicated than that when you haven't done it before. Let's just say that it took us a couple of tries, and almost a month later, we're continuing to figure things out. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, though. I think it happens more often than people let on. I wish I had known that previously, though, which is why I'm sharing this with you, in case at least one of you is in the same boat as I was! I also LOVE being a housewife! Now, by housewife, I mean the spouse who does the most around the house. I'm still tutoring like before, and I'm still planning to do it full-time once I've got the clientele (which I'm not worried about having come the fall, but the summer probably won't keep me as busy as I was before the wedding), so it's not like I'm JUST staying at home. BUT, when I'm NOT working, I'm doing laundry and washing dishes and cooking dinners and building new furniture (IKEA ftw!) and trying to eliminate all traces of the fact that two boys lived in this house before I moved in and one of them moved out. I love it so much!! I have a bit of a routine in the morning too that I like - I drop off Peter at the train station (since we share a car), drive back home, drink tea and eat Cheerios (plain) while watching Gilmore Girls (it's my 8th summer in a row that I've watched the entire series - yes, I'm proud of that fact!), plan lessons, and busy myself with some house-related work until my first lesson. It's great. Now I just need some more friends in the area... Peter started making new friends by attending game nights at our local game shop once or twice a week, which is great! I just need to get on that bandwagon now myself.
Overall, we've been keeping busy, but now it's the good kind of busy, not the stressful kind of busy. I wrote and addressed all of our thank-you cards; now I'm just waiting for our photos so I can print copies of one to send with them. My sister spent the night two weeks ago and attended my pottery class with me, which was super fun. My Chinese grandma held a Chinese banquet for us, during which I wore a traditional Chinese dress that my mom had worn during the reception at her own wedding. Peter and I attended our first wedding together, spending some quality time with a few of my cousins beforehand. We saw the Incredibles 2! I've been having some fun cooking adventures because Peter started a low carb diet (and I've since learned that I don't know what a carb is lol), the most exciting of which happened tonight when I cooked lobster for the first time! And I've gotten back into the swing of tutoring, which I actually missed! I've retained most of my regulars despite the summer vacation, but I've acquired some new students as well, so it's shaping up. =]
I think I'm going to aim to blog twice a month, or every other week (still on Wednesdays), instead of every week. Now that the wedding is over, I'm not exactly working towards something in particular every week, so I think twice a month makes more sense. For those of you who participated in my journey with all of the wedding planning, thank you for joining! I hope you'll continue to enjoy doing life with me as I settle into this adventure they call marriage. ; )
Also, forgive me for the lack of a blog title- I'm going to be stuck with this blog for a while, so I want it to be good!
